Abstract

  1. This study investigated Ashwagandha's potential to ameliorate liver enzyme, lipid profile, glucose and GSH, MDA of induced hypothyroidism in male rabbit. Twenty-four (24) adult male rabbits divided equally and randomly into four groups (C1, C2, T1, T2) C1: control negative group received tap water orally. C2: control positive group received Ashwagandha at 500 mg/kg.B.W. dose given once daily orally. T1: Treatment 1 group received propylthiouracil 100 mg/kg.B.W once daily orally. T2: Treatment 2 group received both propylthiouracil 100 mg/kg.B.W and Ashwagandha at 500 mg/kg.B.W. dose, blood samples were collected by cardiac puncture technique before the experiment started and at the end of the experiment for measuring the following parameters: lipid profile; Triacylglycerol (TAG), High density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), Total cholesterol (TC) LiNEAR Spain kit, very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), liver enzyme; Serum AST (Aspartate aminotransferase), ALT (Alanine aminotransferase).  Glucose, Malondialdehyde (MDA) Glutathione, (GSH). In conclusion, the results of the current study of ashwagandha have hepatoprotective effect on the liver and decreased the hepato-oxidative stress.
