Serum Level of Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1 in Arterial Hypertension Patients and Their Association with Disease-Related Factors

Abstract

Background: Arterial hypertension is a prevalent long-term cardiovascular condition that contributes significantly to disease and mortality around the world. may represent a critical biomarker of vascular inflammation in patients with arterial hypertension. Methods: A case-control study involved 90 men participants, 60 of whom had arterial hypertension and 30 of whom were healthy controls. The level of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) were assessed using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Additionally, individuals with hypertension were assessed based on their age, body mass index, lipid profile, length of illness, status of treatment, and family history of hypertension. Results: the presented study showed significant increase in level of MCP-1 in patients with arterial hypertension compared to healthy controls. Patients with longer disease duration, obesity, hyperlipidemia, and a positive family history of hypertension were shown to have higher MCP-1 levels. Furthermore, MCP-1 levels were increased in newly diagnosed patients than in treated patients, and all differences were statistically significant (p < 0.0001). Conclusion : Overall, our findings suggest that elevated serum MCP-1 levels are associated with arterial hypertension useful inflammatory biomarker for evaluating disease severity and monitoring hypertension in men patients and may serve as a potential biomarker of vascular inflammation and cardiovascular risk.
